Making bamboo fly rod ferrules: Machining final feature on female welt

In this series of two videos, I show the bamboo rod maker how I machine the last feature on the open end of the female ferrule.  The micro ferrule features are similar to those used by CSE.   The dimensions used are pleasing to the eye when viewing the fine bamboo fly rod.

In this video, you can see that the bevel is being turned by the compound rest on the cross slide.  A 60 degree angle was selected.

In this second video, a close-up is afforded the viewer.  The cross slide is not moving towards the head stock.  Instead the cross feed is advanced then the compound is advanced.  Smaller cuts are taken, from inside the ferrule to its outside.  This avoids crimping the opening of the female micro ferrule.  This is very important when it comes time to fit the male.

The next step is the soldering of the female tube to the male.  Stay tuned.
